Lawrence (Larry) E. Schmidt, Esq., Chairman
Larry is the president of the Baltimore County School Board and a partner at the law firm Smith, Gildea & Schmidt, LLC in Towson, Maryland. He has been a practicing attorney in Maryland for over 32 years. Smith, Gildea & Schmidt, LLC focuses on land use, real estate and complex litigation matters. Previously, Larry served as Zoning Commissioner/Hearing Officer of Baltimore County from 1991-2004. Larry is a 1975 graduate of Western Maryland College (now McDaniel College) and received his J.D. from the University of Baltimore. In addition to his professional achievements, Larry has participated in numerous volunteer activities, including serving as a member of the Baltimore County Board of Education (2009-Present) (President: 2011-2012). He has also been an active volunteer for Baltimore County Recreation and Parks, Greater Towson Committee, and numerous other professional and volunteer organizations. Larry was appointed Chairman in Spring of 2017
Cheri H. Dorsey, Esq.
Cheri focuses her practice in the areas of estate planning, estate administration and trust administration. Her goal is to have a warm ear and a kind heart as she helps individuals and families navigate the difficult issues of planning for disability and death. Cheri advises clients on basic topics such as powers of attorney documents, Advance Directive documents, Last Wills and Testaments and Revocable Living Trusts, as well as more complex topics such as life insurance trusts, grantor retained annuity trusts, charitable remainder trusts, and qualified personal residence trusts.
Cheri has experience assisting clients in fulfilling their charitable wishes, from entering into pledge agreements with organizations, to creating charitable organizations. She also has the unique experience of working with artists and art collectors, guiding them in achieving their goals for the continuity of their collections.
Cheri spends considerable time working with business owners with regard to their succession planning, particularly with respect to transferring interests in family businesses to the next generation through various gifting and other transfer techniques.
Holding the hand of the surviving spouse and other family members after the death of a loved one is one of Cheri’s strengths due to her ability to sympathize. She regularly handles the administration of trusts and estates, and often serves as a fiduciary with respect to those matters.
William (Bill) Williams, Jr.
Bill is the Senior Director of Stegman and Company, certified public accountants based in Baltimore. As the Senior Director in charge of the SEC practice section, Bill provides audit and accounting services to a broad group of entities including financial services, biosciences and other commercials entities. Bill is a member of the Maryland Association of Certified Public Accountants, the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants, Center for Audit Quality and, as a Certified Valuation Analyst, a member of the National Association of Certified Valuation Analysts.
S. Tyler Wright
Tyler is a Vice President and Commercial Relationship Manager at Howard Bank, a full service community bank based in Columbia, MD. Tyler is a graduate of Western Maryland College (now McDaniel College) where he received a BA degree in political science and history. Tyler is an active member of United Way’s Emerging Leaders United program and Business Volunteers Maryland GIVE program. He was also a former Board member of the Baltimore Washington Corridor Chamber. In 2014, SmartCEO recognized Tyler as a winner of the Power Players Award for local bankers. Tyler was introduced to Genesee Valley through his involvement with Leadership of Baltimore County. Tyler grew up in Chestertown on Maryland’s Eastern Shore and now lives in Timonium with his wife, Tracy, and two daughters.
Robert A. (Rob) Belcher
Rob is the founder and CEO of Sealtite Applicators, Inc., a commercial roofing company with a service area in Maryland, Pennsylvania, and Virginia. After graduating from Friends School in Baltimore (Tom LaMonica was Rob’s lacrosse coach), Rob earned his bachelor’s degree in economics and computer sciences from Duke University in 1981. On springtime afternoons, Rob is a regular fixture on the Genesee Valley athletic fields where he coaches Herford High School’s varsity men’s lacrosse. He and his family live in the community near Genesee Valley. He has been an active member of the Genesee Valley board for many years and was elected chairman in late 2010. He was re-elected chairman in September 2011 passed on the duty in Spring of 2017.
Steve is the vice president in charge of construction for James Keelty & Company, a 107 year old real estate development firm. He is on the board of the Homebuilders Association of Maryland, the Baltimore County Homebuilders, the Maryland chapter of the US Green Building Council, and is chairman of the Baltimore County Homebuilders’ Political Action Committee. Steve was raised in New Jersey, received a BA in education from Western Maryland College (now McDaniel College), is married with three daughters and lives in Phoenix, MD. Steve has enjoyed watching his daughters participate in numerous athletic events at Genesee Valley for the past several years.
John is CEO and co-founder of Brothers Services Company, one of Maryland’s largest roofing and remodeling companies – serving both residential and commercial customers primarily in the Central Maryland area for 26 years. John earned his MBA from Loyola in 2004 and is an instrument rated private pilot and an avid golfer. A dedicated family man with five grown children, John has been blessed to be married to his best friend, Diane, for the past thirty years. John is an elder at Lifepoint Church, has served as President of the Remodelers Council, and has been a recipient of many awards including Remodeler of the Year, Future 50, Smart 100, and multiple years as Best of Baltimore (Roofing) and Best of Carroll (Roofing).
Susan Gossling Walters is an award-winning communications specialist with experience in public health, higher education, community planning, public affairs and social services. Throughout her career she has contributed her expertise to the creation of numerous creative and successful communications campaigns for the institutions she has represented including Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health, Goucher College, The Greater Baltimore Committee, Baltimore Harbor Endowment, and Market Center Development Corporation. Currently she is a Senior Communications Manager for the international humanitarian development agency Catholic Relief Services where she uses her skills as a writer, photographer and strategic thinker to bring the stories of CRS’ work to the public marketplace so the world can appreciate their lasting impact.
Wilmer J. E. (Wil)Sauerbrey
Wil is an Associate Broker at Long& Foster Real Estate Inc, the largest privately owned real estate company in the USA. He grew up in Maryland, and graduated from Lehigh University with a BS in Mechanical Engineering, and the University of Baltimore with a JD in law. Several US patents were awarded to him while working as a Design Engineer. He then moved into technically oriented sales, which grew into an International Marketing position for custom engineered heavy load transfer systems throughout North America, Europe and the Middle East. He currently serves on the board of directors of the Greater Jacksonville Association, is a member of various Real Estate Boards, Oriole Dog Training Club, American Society of Naval Engineers and the American Legion. Wil lives on a small farm in the Jacksonville area of Baltimore County with his wife Ellen and their trained German Shepherd dog. He has been on the Board of Directors and associated with Genesee Valley since 1992.
Larry is the Vice-President for Business Development at Belts Logistics Services in Baltimore. Larry comes to GVOLC with a passion for keeping the values of Tom LaMonica alive and relevant, along with a recognition of how critically important leadership training and character development is for today’s youth. Larry lived the values Tom instilled in him during four years on the football team at Cornell University, where he graduated with a B.S. in Animal Science in 1983, and during every day of his 30+ year career in the U.S. Army and Army Reserve. Larry became a decorated Veteran after Afghanistan service in 2010. He went on to receive a Master’s degree in Public Management from the University of Maryland’s School of Public Policy in 2012 – the same year he became a candidate for Congress in Maryland’s Second District. Larry has a ten year-old son, Nathan, whom he loves coaching in basketball and baseball. They live in Timonium.
After a 3 year stint as a teacher and coach at St. Pauls School, I started in a sales position in a family owned property and casualty insurance agency, Warfield -Dorsey Co, Inc; after 10 yrs as a leading salesman, I purchased the agency and over the next 20 years quintupled its size. At age 55, with no children entering the business and no internal perpetuation, I decided to merge with a larger local competitor, HMS Ins Assoc, which has been a great partnership for me as I have eliminated management duties, and with 2 very able assistants focus on managing the insurance needs for about 50 long time clients. I was also a previous board member in the 90’s.
Brian Nabet currently serves as the IT Director at Technology and Information Security Systems. He is an experienced IT leader offering demonstrated strengths in analyzing, establishing and directing strategies, policies, and procedures to build and lead top performing technology departments. In the past, Brian successfully led a major BI platform upgrade at Textron Systems to increase performance, capabilities, and content delivery. Brian has his M.S. in Information Technology from Towson University and his B.A. in Management Information Systems from Loyola.
Nathaniel Badder is a dynamic professional with a proven record of maximizing team efficiency and effectiveness, planning and executing key strategic initiatives, and developing creative solutions for complex problems. Nathaniel is the owner, founder, and operator of 36 letters – a thriving retail operation that creates and distributes photo letter art. Nathaniel currently serves as the Director of Alumni Relations and Outreach at Gilman School in Baltimore, MD. Nathaniel received his Bachelor of the Arts in Political Science from Middlebury College and his Master of Science in Education from Elmira College. In his free time, Nathaniel enjoys spending time with his dog and family and staying active through the sport of running.
Amanda worked as a Merchandiser for Crate & Barrel. After 10 successful years at Crate & Barrel, Amanda desired a more flexible schedule and wanted to focus more on her daughter. Amanda is now the Catering manager for Santoni’s Marketplace and Catering, where she manages events as small as 10 guests to as large as 2,000. For the last two years, Amanda has donated her time to Irvine Nature Center, where she has raised money for their yearly fundraiser, “Pumpkins on the Green.” Amanda is also a very active member in her daughter’s preschool PTA, as well as Sparks Elementary PTA. IN her free time, Amanda enjoys coaching Hereford lacrosse, watching her daughter horseback ride, and spending time with her family at their home in Sparks.
Jane is the Business Manager of Genesee Valley. She majored in early childhood education at both Villa Julia College and Towson University before she began working at Genesee Valley as a camp counselor in 1987. After working as a financial aid officer at Friends School in 1988 and 1989, Jane married Tom LaMonica in 1990 and has been Genesee Valley’s business manager ever since. Jane is active in many community organizations in northern Baltimore County and lives in the community near Genesee Valley with her three children, Jackie, Paul, and Sara. (Board term: Life)
Dr. Harrison Monk
Harrison grew up in Darien, Connecticut, earned his BS degree in biology at Colby College in Maine in 1966, and was awarded his Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree at the University of Pennsylvania in 1970. A resident of Anne Arundel County since graduation from veterinary school, Harrison is a co-founder and partner of Greater Annapolis Veterinary Hospital in Annapolis. He belongs to the Maryland and American Veterinary Medical Associations, as well as the American Animal Hospital Association and the Greater Baltimore Veterinary Medical Association. He has been the veterinary advisor to the SPCA of Anne Arundel County and a member of the Anne Arundel County Animal Control Board. (Board term: Life)
